6 year old All Gong took the lead the final time up the backstretch and went on to win by 3 1/4 lengths over Popular Gigalo with All Grit in third for a final time of 4:53 4/5. All Gong is trained by Bruce Miller and was ridden by his daughter Blythe while his son Chip trained and rode the second place finisher Popular Gigalo.

"I was rooting for Blythe because she was on my horse," said Bruce, who won the last Breeders' Cup Steeplechase held (1993) with Lonesome Glory. "But it's nice to see Chip finish second - you couldn't ask for anything better for the family."

The victory was the third of the day for Bruce Miller at Far Hills on a card featuring six races worth a total of $450,000 in purse money. The 80th anniversary meet had a sellout crowd of 40,000 in attendance.

Dateline: 10/24/00

Twelve horses were entered Tuesday for the $250,000 Breeders' Cup Steeplechase, including eight Grade I winners. The race is the richest steeplechase in North America and will be run Saturday, October 28th at the Far Hills Races in Far Hills, New Jersey.

The Breeders' Cup Steeplechase was renewed this year after a seven-year hiatus and will be a big factor in determining the 2000 champion steeplechaser. The race is the fourth race on the card, with an approximate post time of 2:55 p.m.
