Breeders' Cup Preview Day at Belmont Park is one of the single most important prep days for the Breeders' Cup Championship races with five of the eight divisions running. There are four Grade 1 races: The Jockey Club Gold Cup (3 year olds and up at 10 furlongs), the Beldame (3 year old and up females at 9 furlongs), the Champagne (2 year old males at 8.5 furlongs), and the Frizette (2 year old fillies at 8.5 furlongs), plus one Grade 2 race: the Forest Hills Handicap (3 year old and up sprinters at 6 furlongs).

Lemon Drop Kid - the likely favorite for the Jockey Club Gold Cup

Several of the top favorites for the Breeders' Cup races will be making their final prep in here so it should be an exciting day! Unfortunately Fusaichi Pegasus dropped out of the Jockey Club Gold Cup due to a minor hoof injury and will train up to the Breeders' Cup Classic. This will make the race mostly a showdown between old rivals Lemon Drop Kid and Behrens although the speedy Skimming could steal it all.

The most exciting race will likely be the Beldame where top distaffers Beautiful Pleasure and Riboletta will meet for the first time. Beautiful Pleasure is arguably the best East coast female, although some may give an edge to Heritage of Gold who will be running at Keeneland in the Spinster today. Riboletta has been the best of the West and then came East to kick butt in the Ruffian Handicap. The winner of this race will probably be the favorite in the Breeders' Cup Distaff.

The two year old pictures are not quite as clear cut so both juvenile races have large fields entered. A good showing in either the Champagne or the Frizette could earn any of these horses a trip to Louisville. The most accomplished coming in here would have to be City Zip, Trailthefox, and Yonaguska for the boys and Raging Fever and Stormy Pick for the girls.

Forest Camp will contest the Forest Hills Handicap

The defection of Intidab from the Forest Hills due to a "minor setback" left a less influential field but there are still 3 or 4 with Breeders' Cup Sprint hopes including Forest Camp and Shadow Caster. Kelly Kip will be making his first start in several months here after the recurrence of an old hock infection.
