1999 Atto Mile

Dateline: 9/16/99

Results and photos

Movie stars at the Toronto International Film Festival aren't the only international celebrities in Toronto this weekend. Turf stars from North American and Europe will be at Woodbine Sunday for the running of the Grade 1 Atto Mile (formerly the Woodbine Mile). With a purse increase to $1 million (Canadian) guaranteed, the third renewal has attracted a fine field of turf specialists and many of the top jockeys in the world. Several of the entrants are prospects for the Breeders' Cup Mile in November, including some European invaders. The first two runnings gave a 2nd place finisher (Geri, 1997) and 3rd place finisher (Labeeb, 1998) making it a major prep for the Breeders' Cup Mile despite the short history.
