Breeders' Cup Future Bet Pool Three

Take me straight to the final odds!

Updated: 09/22/03

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) has set the fields for this weekend’s third and final wagering period of the Breeders' Cup Future Bet. By far, the most prohibitive morning line favorite in Period 3 is Halfbridled, a 2-1 choice in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Halfbridled, ridden by Julie Krone, was a dominating five-length winner of the August 30 Del Mar Debutante. Morning line odds were established by Mike Watchmaker of Daily Racing Form.

The Future Bet is a special wager that challenges fans to select in advance the winners of the October. 25 Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships races to be held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif. Races open for wagering this weekend are the Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf and the NetJets Breeders’ Cup Mile. Wagering opens on Friday, Sept. 19, at 2:00 p.m. (ET) and closes at 9:00 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Sept. 21.

“We’re optimistic about this third and final period of the Future Bet,” said Ken Kirchner, NTRA senior vice president of product development. “The juvenile divisions are very popular among futures bettors, due to the wide-open nature and rapid improvement with 2-year-olds. Fans should continue to be able to get good value on probable Breeders’ Cup runners. We hope to continue momentum from the last betting period, which saw a 38 percent increase from the first period.”

Under Breeders’ Cup Future Bet rules, each race will offer individual pari-mutuel wagering on 23 runners plus one field entry consisting of all horses not in the body of 23 for each respective race. All betting, available at outlets nationwide, will be win-only with a minimum wager amount of $2.00. At the conclusion of wagering on September 21, odds for all entries become final. No refunds are made on horses that do not ultimately compete in their designated races. Fans will wager on the Future Bet with the Juvenile being Race 9, the Juvenile Fillies as Race 10, the Filly & Mare Turf as Race 11 and the Mile as Race 12 in the Future Bet pools.

The opening fields for Breeders’ Cup Future Bet wagering on the Juvenile, Juvenile Fillies, Filly & Mare Turf and Mile appear below. The favorites for the four races are: Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile – Cuvee at 6-1; Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies – Halfbridled at 2-1; Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf – Voodoo Dancer at 6-1; and NetJets Breeders’ Cup Mile – Special Ring at 8-1.
