Scatter the Gold winning the Queen's Plate

Canadian Triple Crown Preview

Dateline: 8/09/00

Breeders' Stakes Results

Saturday August 12th will be the 110th running of the Breeders' Stakes at Woodbine in Toronto, Canada. Unlike the US Triple Crown, the final leg of the Canadian series is at 1 1/2 miles on the turf rather than the dirt. Scatter the Gold will be attempting to become the 7th Canadian Triple Crown winner since the series was inaugurated in 1959. He will be following in his mother Dance Smartly's footsteps as she was the 5th to take the series in 1991. It is rather ironic that he will be doing in Canada what his 3/4 brother Fusaichi Pegasus failed to do in the US, finishing out the full Triple Crown series.

The race will be telecast nationally on CTV SportsNet Saturday starting at 3:00pm ET and the race goes to post at 3:40pm ET. If you can't get it on television, Woodbine does broadcast live video over the internet.

Below is info about all the entrants with photos where available. Horses are now listed in post position order with morning line odds. All horses carry 126 lbs. except the filly, Red Satin Slippers, who gets 121.

If you want to voice your opinion on who will win or compare Fusaichi Pegasus to Scatter the Gold side by side, check out the Canadian Triple Crown Poll Page.
