This weekend was headlined by two big-money Grade 1 races. First on Saturday was the Whitney Handicap at Saratoga for the 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles with a purse of $750,000. Left Bank pulled a mild upset over favorite Street Cry in a speedy 1:47.04, tying the track record. On Sunday was the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park for the 3-year-olds with a purse of $1,000,000, also at a distance of 1 1/8 miles. War Emblem did not disappoint his fans, winning as the 1-5 favorite over Magic Weisner with Like a Hero third. Left Bank is expected to start next in the Woodward at Belmont Park while War Emblem ships back to Southern California and goes next in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar.
