![]() The most exciting race of the weekend was You's victory in the Test Stakes. |
Dateline: 7/28/02
Opening weekend at Saratoga was dominated by the distaffers with three graded stakes run for the fillies and mares. On Saturday were the grade 2 Diana Handicap for the turf fillies and the grade 1 Test Stakes for the three-year-olds. Both were close finishes with the margin of victory only a nose. The Test Stakes was by far the most exciting with a prolonged stretch duel between Carson Hollow and You, running stride for stride with You just getting the nod. On Sunday the feature was the Grade 1 Go For Wand Stakes at 1 1/8 miles. Canadian champion Dancethruthedawn, a daughter of Mr. Prospector and Dance Smartly, blew her competition away by almost four lengths in an impressive performance.
