Trippi, who was undefeated before his 11th place finish in the Kentucky Derby, took the lead by the 1/2 mile mark and drew away to an impressive 9 length victory. The win was Jerry Bailey's fourth on the card. Favored Bevo, who missed the Triple Crown races due to training setbacks, rallied up for second over Sun Cat.

Trippi in the paddock. His trainer Todd Pletcher said: "I thought he deserved a chance and ran a good race in the Derby. He might not be a mile and a quarter horse, but up to a mile and an eighth he's a pretty nice horse."

Bevo in the post parade. His trainer Billy Badgett said: "He was stuck behind a wall of horses with nowhere to go and once he got clear, the race was over". The Dwyer is likely his next start.

Third place finisher Sun Cat in the paddock with Jorge Chavez up.
