1998 Belmont Stakes ResultsDateline: 6/8/98
Well, it wasn't the result we all really hoped for but it was an exciting race anyway. Victory Gallop overcame a lot of doubts raised by his seeming to hang in the Preakness and the case of ringworm afterwards. Real Quiet showed he had heart and gave it his all but just came up a nose short. Many thought he was undeserving of becoming a Triple Crown winner and said the "racing gods" wouldn't let that happen. Guess they were right. Even if Victory Gallop hadn't gotten his nose in front, Real Quiet would have been disqualified for bearing out which would have been even worse than the loss by a nose. Attendance for the day was 80,162, the most since 1971.
Sorry I was not able to update after early Thursday morning, but my laptop died on the trip up to NY and I was incommunicado until Saturday night. I took a ton of photos and have some of the best displayed on the pages linked below.
