The Kentucky OaksDateline: 05/02/00
The fillies have not gotten much press this year, especially since Surfside dropped out of the Kentucky Derby hunt, but they will get center stage on Friday in the 126th running of the Kentucky Oaks. 16 fillies were entered with the field capped at 14 with eligibility based on gross earnings. The two who did not get in the race are Farrfesheena and Dignify from Godolphin Racing.
There is no clear cut favorite with 4-1 being the lowest morning line odds. Last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Cash Run is a possible post time favorite despite failing on the sloppy track at Keeneland last out.
Past performances for the race are available for free online from the Daily Racing Form here. The races will also be televised on ESPN from 5:00-6:00 p.m. EDT with post time for the Oaks at 5:43 p.m. I will be there so check back Friday night for photos and results.
The race is 1 1/8 miles with a purse of $500,000 and all the fillies will carry 121 lbs. All 14 fillies will race as separate betting interests.
