The Kentucky Oaks

Dateline: 04/30/02

Take Charge Lady is favorite for the 2002 Kentucky Oaks

RESULTS

The fillies never get as much press as the boys, but they will get center stage on Friday in the 128th running of the Kentucky Oaks. Ten fillies were entered including Take Charge Lady who has yet to lose against the girls this year. Sadly the field lost one of the favorites this weekend when Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Tempera had to be euthanized due to a sudden illness.

Update: Bella Bellucci has been scratched due to bad blood work results Wednesday morning.

Past performances for the race are available for free online from the Daily Racing Form here. The races will be televised on ESPN2 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. EDT with post time for the Oaks at 5:43 p.m. I will be there so check back Friday night for photos and results.

The race is 1 1/8 miles with a purse of $500,000 and all the fillies will carry 121 lbs.
