The race formerly known as the Jim Beam Stakes has seemed to have an identity crisis the last couple of years as the sponsorship changed but perhaps now with the return to its original name it can begin to build up name recognition again. As a special treat, Cigar will make a personal appearance about an hour before the big race at approximately 3:15pm EST. This will be his first appearance at a track since he retired so if you are in the area, don't miss this opportunity.

Here is the field in post position order. Distance is 1 1/8 miles and all entrants carry 121 lbs. The purse is $600,000 this year.

Mostly I see this race as a last ditch chance to get back on track for the Kentucky Derby for the majority of these horses. Archer City Slew is the logical favorite and seems to have been keeping the classiest company but this will be his first time past a mile. Deputy Warlock and Elite Mercedes didn't do much in the Florida Derby so they will need to put in a good showing here to advance. Rollin With Nolan, Runpastum, and Silver Tycoon are too lightly raced to really know what they can do yet. This will be Gateman's first try on the dirt making him difficult to gauge. Most of the rest I see as having little impact on the Triple Crown unless they improve dramatically here.
