What a great race this was! Four of the top older horses in training duked it out at 1 1/4 miles to a blanket finish between three of them in a final time of 2:00.67. Free House, who seems to love winning in California, went to the front and stubbornly refused to let anyone pass. Event of the Year, who looked splendid in the paddock and post parade, tracked the leaders and made a nice move on the turn. He drew close to Free House but just couldn't pass him. Silver Charm seemed a bit sluggish again and lacked response until deep stretch when he finally started closing on the leaders but it was too late for more than a very close third place finish. Dr. Fong ran fourth while Puerto Madero put in a very disappointing effort to finish a distant fifth.
