A closer look at race 8

Baptize exits an electrifying score over the Keeneland sod, in which he flew down the stretch to catch a determined leader in the final yards. The son of Dynaformer defeated a solid group of turf specialists that day, while posting his fourth career turf victory from six attempts. The young colt is in excellent form, and it appears that he will be ready to give another big effort this afternoon.

Today, Baptize takes on a stellar field of 3-year-old turf specialists and it will take a strong performance to win. Trainer Bill Mott, who’s coming off a good meet in Lexington, has had his charge working a solid series of morning drills in preparation for this event, which will have Baptize sharp and ready to roll.

Baptize should get a perfect trip settling a few lengths off the pace. There isn’t an abundance of speed entered in here, so his stalking style will help him stay close to the expected slow opening fractions. When the field starts to round the final turn, watch our top selection begin to lengthen his stride, clearing the leaders by the top of the stretch run. From there, he will outkick his remaining rivals that will be charging from the back of the pack.
