Trivia Answer

ROBERTO, was bred and owned by John W. Galbreath, who was the owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team. The mating was conceived by one of America's greatest breeders, Olin Gentry. A champion at both two and three in Great Britain, ROBERTO won three Group 1 stakes including the Epsom Derby, and went on to become one of the most influential sires recent years. He sired numerous stakes winners, including Silver Hawk, Dynaformer, Kris S., and Lear Fan.

ROBERTO was named in honor of Mr. Galbreath's favorite baseball player, the great Roberto Clemente, who died tragically in a plane crash while transporting food and medical supplies to aid the victims of an earthquake in Nicaragua. The following year, the Baseball Hall of Fame selection committee waived the normal 5-year waiting rule and unanimously selected Mr. Clemente. A quote from Mr. Clemente that serves as his epitaph reads, "I want to be remembered as a ballplayer who gave all he had to give."

Two Robertos, two champions who indeed gave us their all....
