2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta gave birth to her first foal, a 130-pound Bernardini colt, at 10:10pm ET on Thursday at Lane's End Farm in Versailles, Kentucky. You can check out photos of Zenyatta and her baby here. Co-owner Ann Moss, who attended the birth with husband Jerry, described him as a dark bay with a white star and "polka dots on his feet" like his dam. Trainer John Shirreffs said, "I'm just happy it really went smoothly and quick and the baby looked healthy."The 8-year-old daughter of Street Cry out of Kris S. mare Vertigineux is the only female to win the Breeders' Cup Classic. She retired in November 2010 with $7.3 million in purse earnings and a record of 19 wins in 20 starts, her only defeat being in her final career start, a close second in her attempt to win her second Classic. She was known for her immense size, standing 17.2 hands tall, and her come-from-behind style that looked effortless due to her stride length of over 25 feet.
