2009 Kentucky Derby Entries and Post Positions

Wednesday April 29, 2009
A field of 20 was entered for Kentucky Derby 135 to be run on May 2, 2009. Bad luck has seemed to plague the contenders and yet another, Win Willy, was knocked out by an ankle injury just before the entries were taken allowing Nowhere to Hide to get in the race. To the right Jerry Hollendorfer and Mike Smith discuss which post to choose for Chocolate Candy. Get all the horses, post positions, odds, and free past performances here.

I Want Revenge reminds me of George Steinbrenner’s colt from a few years back. History repeats itself May 2nd. A huge Wood Memorial followed be a 1st Saturday in May bounce.

Ed your the Moron. Did you not watch the favorite win the derby last year?? It is possible but with a big field not likely. Pioneer of the Nile wins this for fun $$$

Anybody that’s positive about ANY horse in this field has not been around the horses long enough. It’s been many years since there was a field of so may good horses. General Quarters is better than many think. Friesan Fire and I want revenge are good. Pioneer and Choc Candy have great potential. And still, these five against the rest is no sure thing. I’ve been following this sport since Nashua (’55 I think) and have only been POSITIVE twice. Secretariat and Strike the Gold (best looking horse on Derby Day I’ve ever seen). Easy Goer broke my heart. Best horse in many a year. NOW, smart money takes General Quarters with the outsize odds.

i dont believe what i’m reading here. There hasnt even been a metion of Dunkirk yet? Pioneer of the Nile is still yet to run a triple digit Beyer figure, Papa Clem was all out to run down Old Fashioned, with a fractured ln his leg, in Arkansas Derby, and Hold Me Back is a synthetic horse for sure ! Alot of horses come out of Florida Derby to win the big one, and with the absence of Quality Road, which i believe was gonna bounce anyway, that leaves me with an improving Dunkirk. He fired in a 107 last out, look for him to pull it off at hopefully a nice price, 6-1

Nobody asked you to believe anything G’boy. These are opinions - - and like arses, we each have one. Dunkirk and Musket Man are my # 6 & 7 btw, but Dunkirk is almost an unknown and is WAY overrated by the handicappers = = BUT handicapping is a guess where the money will go, NOT a guess who is better!!!

Rashard Lewis has monster game to clinch last night so now he can attend the Derby. With a wet track his horse Join In The Dance has as good a chance as anyone. If not for the brutal headwind at Tampa he drops Musket Man, and last out was poor due to synthetic track. But don’t bet him because I want him to stay near 50-1!
