Big Brown wins the 2008 Kentucky Derby

Saturday May 3, 2008
Favorite Big Brown stalked the early pace then opened up in the stretch to win the 2008 Kentucky Derby by 4 3/4 lengths to become the first horse to win the Derby from post position 20 using a starting gate and the first since 1915 to win off just three lifetime starts. The filly Eight Belles finished second, but sadly broke down after the race. Denis of Cork closed from last to finish third. Get the results, chart, and photos here.

It was a walk-up start, but Clyde Van Duesen won from the 20 post position in 1929.
