An Inside Look at the Sport of Kings
by Bert Sugar and Cornell Richardson. In his 55th book, Horse Sense, legendary sportswriter and advertising executive Bert Sugar diverges from his familiar territory of the boxing ring and baseball diamond to tackle the colorful world of Thoroughbred horse racing. Aided by television writer and long time New York racing fan Cornell Richardson, Sugar takes the reader through a compact yet surprisingly thorough tour of the Sport of Kings. In deference to his past life as an executive, money is an ongoing theme in the book, with Sugar going through such topics as the rise in yearling sale prices, purse money, and betting handle through the years, as well as betting coups from the old-time bookmakers and touts to the very recent Breeders' Cup Pick Six scandal.
