2009 Dwyer Stakes and Tom Fool Handicap

Independence Day at Belmont Park had three graded stakes with a fourth on Sunday. Saturday in the Dwyer Stakes (G2) Kensei won with favorite Warrior's Reward third, while Sunday in the 2009 Tom Fool Handicap (G2) Munnings (left) won easily against only three rivals. 2009 Suburban Handicap and Prioress Stakes

2009 Dominion Day and Sweet Briar Too Stakes

Jockey Robert Landry wins #2000

He hit the milestone with his win aboard 12-1 longshot Firetheexecutive in the 9th race at Woodbine on Wednesday. Landry said, "I treated it as though it were any other day. It's really nice to win this. My mindset was, 'When it comes, it comes.' I'm happy I won it for Steve. I've ridden a lot for him in the past. Now that it's over with we'll go out there and try to get some more."

Rachel Alexandra dominates in the Mother Goose Stakes

Rachel Alexandra romped home to win the 2009 Mother Goose Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park by 19 1/4 lengths in stakes record time of 1:46.33 for the 1 1/8 miles. Only two other fillies ran, Malibu Prayer who was 2nd and Flashing who was 3rd. Also on the card, Wishful Tomcat won the Fratello Ed Stakes. Get the results, charts, and photos here.

2009 North America Cup Day

Well Said (right) was far back early, but rallied on the outside to win the 2009 Pepsi North America Cup by 3 1/4 lengths over Art Colony and favorite Keep It Real. He set a new stakes, track, and Canadian record of 1:48 1/5 at Mohawk Racetrack Saturday night. Get the results, charts, and photos for this and 4 other stakes on the card.

Terrain euthanized

He was the even money favorite in the Iowa Derby on June 26, but broke down and was pulled up on the backstretch, then vanned off. It was found he had broken sesamoid bones in his right front ankle and a condylar fracture of the cannon bone of his leg, and he had to be euthanized. His trainer Al Stall Jr. said that the bones were so severely shattered there was no way he could be saved. Rest in peace Terrain!
